Spartans Code of Behaviour Policy

Parents, Carers & Guardians

  1. Set a good example – speak and act respectfully about the club, coaches, and other families.
  2. Talk kindly – be polite and calm when speaking with coaches or the committee. 
  3. Support the coaches – respect their choices. 
    Please don’t coach from the side line or go to the players’ bench.  
  4. Respect referees – accept their calls and if required, raise your concern after the game. 
  5. Encourage fun – help your child enjoy basketball and not worry about winning. 
  6. Help out – take turns on the score bench and be fair to both teams. 
  7. Be respectful – no teasing, yelling, or negative talk about others. 
  8. Use kind words – no rude or discriminatory language. 
  9. Help your child follow the Player Code of Behaviour. 

      Spectators

      1. Remember- it’s about kids having fun, not winning at all costs. 
      2. Cheer for good play- support all players. 
      3. Respect referees – don’t argue or shout. 
      4. Be positive – mistakes are part of learning. 
      5. Keep it safe and respectful- no violence, abuse, or bullying. 
      6. Understand – breaking the code may lead to consequences.

      Players

      1. Play fair and follow the rules. 
      2. Be kind and respectful – no bullying or rough play. 
      3. Work together with your coach and teammates. 
      4. Respect referees – talk to your coach if you have a problem. 
      5. Stay calm – no yelling, swearing, or trash talk. 
      6. Be a good sport – clap for good play, even from the other team. 
      7. Try your best – be reliable and on time. 
      8. Play for fun – be friendly, win or lose. 

      Social Media & Community

      1. Don’t post or share negative comments about coaches, players, or the club. 
      2. If you have a problem email [email protected] instead of posting online. 
      3. Keep the team space positive — no gossip or negativity 

      If Someone Doesn’t Follow the Code 

      We want everyone to feel safe, respected, and welcomed at Spartans. 
      If someone does not follow the Code of Behaviour: 

      1. They may be spoken to by a coach, manager, or committee member. 
      2. They may be asked to take a break or leave the court or venue. 
      3. The issue may be reviewed by the Spartans Committee. 
      4. Ongoing or serious behaviour may lead to suspension or removal from the club. 

      Our goal is always to solve problems calmly, fairly, and with respect. 

      Have a question, want to provide feedback or raise a complaint? 

      1. If possible, it is best to speak with your team’s coach and/or manager in the first instance.
